HOUSING

How do I request a room change?

If your current living situation isn't working out, start by contacting your Residence Assistant (RA) or the Housing Office. They'll explain the room change process, assess the situation if it is necessary, and let you know what options are available. If the issues involves your roommate, try having an honest conversation first; many situations can be worked through before requesting a move.

How do I  prepare for securing housing for the upcoming year?

Start planning earlier than you think. Keep an eye on housing application deadlines, talk with potential roommates, and think whether you'd rather stay on campus or move off campus. It's also crucial that you ensure you have no holds on your account and have registered for at least 15 credit hours before housing drops.

How do I  deal with a difficult roommate?

Communication is everything. Have a respectful conversation about what's bothering you instead of letting frustrations build up. Set clear boundaries, be willing to compromise, and remember that you're both adjusting to a new environment. If you've tried talking things through and nothing improves, your RA is there to mediate the situation as well.

What are some dorm essentials that you didn't realize you needed?

Things like: -a mattress topper/pad -a fan -storage bins -a small first-aid kit -bulk hygiene products -basic cleaning products (broom, Swifer mop, Corox wipes, etc...) These small things make all the difference in terms of convenience. It's usually the small things, not the expensive ones that make dorm life much more comfortable.

How do I submit a maintenance request?

If something in your room is broken or not working properly , submit a maintenance request through your dorm directory (normally in the main lobby) as soon as possible. Don't wait for a small issue to become a bigger one. If it's an emergency, like a leak or safety concern, contact an RA or Residence Life immediately.

How do you make a small dorm room feel more comfortable?

Use storage that fits under your bed, keep a clutter free area, and personalize your room with touches like wall decor, throw pillows, a rug, small tv, and whatever else you think would elevate your space. A clean, organized room can make your dorm feel like a place you actually enjoy coming back to.

What are your best dorm life tips that every freshman should know?

Respect shared spaces, keep up with your laundry, and don't wait until you're completely out of essentials to restock. Introduce yourself to the people in your dorm hall; you never know who could become a close friend! Most importantly, remember that no one has dorm life figured out right away. Give yourself time to adjust, ask for help when you need it, and enjoy the experience because it goes by much faster than you expect.
